About
The goal of the shemakes project is to empower future female innovators of the sustainable fashion industry through inspiration, skills and networks.
shemakes is creating opportunities and environments that enable women to move into roles of increasing power. This connects directly to the essential role of what this project calls “labs”, which are physical spaces for textile experimentation. In these safe spaces, new ideas can be developed and tested, by carrying out learning modules, holding workshops addressing gender issues or female entrepreneurship, and learning how to produce textiles differently, with new machinery, methods or simply attitudes.
We are excited that Textile Prototyping Lab is one of the Shemakes Labs. Starting in April we will conduct several activities to support future female innovators in our Lab.

SMART STITCHES
Workshop 02.05. 16 - 20h
with Tasnim Hussain from Fab Lab Qatar
The main objective of this workshop is to use cross stitching embroidery art to make interactive art pieces using special e-textile fibers and conductive yarns.
Cross stitching is particularly chosen as it is an art that work with concepts highly related to coding/ programming specially in terms of the overall architecture. The workshop is targeting to share inspiring thoughts through artistic interactive pieces while learning the basics of soft circuits. Reflecting on this patterning art, the multicolor, and cross stitches symbolizes the beauty of embracing diversity and unity.
About Tasnim
Tasnim is passionate about different handcrafts and she is impressed with the expanded room of creativity when technology is merged with handicrafts. From her perspective, arts and crafts are a lifestyle rather than just hobbies. Art is everywhere and what makes it special is that no one can go wrong with it, there are always new ways to show it and with creativity, the sky's the limit! For more than a year, Tasnim has been interested in making good use of the waste raw materials in Fab Labs for art and crafts projects and she is a sustainability advocate calling for innovative micro-businesses to invest in the waste material as their new raw material to make customized products for sale. She has one small business where she uses both digital fabrication technologies and handicrafts in a sustainable approach to make crafted pieces.
